Social You’s Technical Director, Dan Eastley, has joined the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race on the Team Liverpool 2018 boat.
Leaving Liverpool on Sunday morning, the team will sail the 70-foot racing yacht across the Atlantic Ocean arriving in Punta Del Este in Uruguay in late September, completing the first leg of the race. Over 35 days the team won’t touch dry land once, with no stop-offs, showers and limited contact with friends and family.
The Clipper fleet comprises of 12 yachts and over 700 non-professional crew, all of whom have undertaken 2 years of training to get to grips with the skills needed to become super sailors.
Over 11 months, the crews will complete the various stages of the race facing challenges, working closely as teams and raising money for Unicef.
“The Clipper Race sees everyday people take on one of the greatest challenges on earth, testing their wits, skills and courage in an endurance race across the toughest oceans,“ explains Mike Penrose, Unicef UK’s Executive Director.
"At the same time, children around the world are experiencing even more dangerous challenges. They’re facing disease, hunger and the chaos of war and disaster.
“The Clipper Race is helping Unicef UK do whatever it takes until every child is safe, and we’re looking forward to working together again for the 2017-18 edition of the race.”
Speaking of the training and the experience earlier this month, Dan said: “The training has been intense and a really steep learning curve at working so closely with others, in a really tight-knit environment. Being part of a world-renowned event is the experience of a lifetime and knowing that we’re making a difference to the future of children across the world is huge motivation for us to do everything we can as a team.”
